There are numerous photography contests running every year and while they are open to everyone, a lot of the winners are the same people from the far corners of the world. We wanted to have a contest for our clients and friends that encouraged taking photographs and not relying on stock images from years gone by. We also wanted to make sure that it was open to all levels of photographers.
So in 2014 we started the Oceanic Ventures Photography Contest and we asked our vendors to help us promote diving and photography. We created a category called “Point and Shoot” which excluded DSLR and Mirrorless cameras. These camera systems (think Sealife Micro 3.0 and GoPro) are generally used by newer photographers; but, many experienced divers use them as well because they are less intrusive on their dives and easier to transport to the dive site. We also had some fun categories like “Makes me Laugh” and “Topside” which allowed everyone to participate. Over the years, we have had some amazing images summited and we are looking forward to even more.
