Oceanic Ventures is proud to be the Scuba Diving Instructional team for the Houstonian Hotel Club and Spa.
Scuba Diving is your entry into a world full of hidden treasures and special creatures. This world dominates Earth’s surface, yet only a few can access it. One of the best things about diving is that it is a lifetime activity that you can do with your children and grandchildren alike. Oceanic Ventures offers a full range of recreational and technical diving right here in West University Place, so you'll always have something to do or a place to go near home.
We offer snorkeling, free diving, and scuba courses for all ages. For the younger members of your house, we have our award-winning Starfish and Scuba Ranger programs as well as our Junior Open Water Diver programs. For older children and adults, our entry-level program is Open Water Diver, designed to help you become a scuba diver. We also offer specialty courses ranging from underwater navigation to night diving and spearfishing. Whether your interest is fish identification or photography, the professional staff at Oceanic Ventures is here to help you meet your goals and become an experienced underwater explorer and certified scuba diver.
Generally, we teach Open Water courses privately for members of the Houstonian. This gives you the most flexibility in scheduling. We can teach at the Houstonian or in your own backyard pool. Contact Ann for more information.
Tell me more about the program.
Our focus is a little different. We want to help you to become a scuba diver not just learn to dive. Let’s face it: anyone can learn to mimic a set of actions to pass a test, but on your first real adventure, will you be a safe, comfortable diver?
At Oceanic Ventures, we want you to feel as safe and comfortable on your first trip as you will on your tenth, and to fall in love with diving like we did! Our program is designed to help you reach that goal: swim with fish and have fun doing it.
- Let’s Start With Some Knowledge
We know you're busy, so we have tailored the learning to fit your schedule. But we don’t just hand you a book or tell you to go read an online text. Instead, we combine an interactive online program with in-person or virtual training with our staff to help you learn the basics of scuba diving and become a knowledgeable, thinking diver. - Skills to Help You Feel Like a Diver
People often say you get what you pay for, and Scuba Diving is no exception. We don’t teach “fast, cheap scuba.” Instead, we help you build comfort and skills in a non-threatening, unhurried environment where you can absorb the knowledge and feel comfortable underwater, enjoying the weightlessness only an astronaut or a diver can experience.
Experience the Thrill of Diving in a Local Lake or on a Trip
Let’s face it, you want to be underwater, not in front of your computer, and we want to take you there. Most of our divers start their journey at one of our local training lakes. But, to further our goal of helping you to become a safe and comfortable diver, we do more diving than we are required to do during these sessions which helps you develop your diving skills..- Equipment Made for Real Divers
If someone tells you you only need a swimsuit and a towel, they aren't really helping you reach your goals. Scuba diving is an equipment-intensive sport just like golf or tennis. To become a diver, you need equipment that fits you and keeps you safe and comfortable in the water. - Additional Training to Help You Reach Your Goals
Remember that your Open Water Diver program is just the beginning of your journey into the underwater world. To help you keep moving along that path, we have added a Computer Diving Specialty and an Enriched Air Nitrox course to your Open Water Diver Program.
This is the first step that really opens up the underwater world. Our Open Water Diver program is a little different from most because we focus on helping you reach your goals and become a diver. We do not merely want to teach you to dive. This may sound like semantics, but it isn't. This philosophy permeates all our programs from the start. We want you to become a safe and comfortable diver who loves the sport as much as we do. Remember, we were all beginning divers once. To get started, call Dive Mom or another Dive Professional to schedule time to pull everything together and set up your schedule. Just let us know when you want to start.
What about my children?
Your children can start diving as early as 10 years old if they have the maturity to begin. These really young divers have some depth limitations that your professional Scuba Instructor will cover with you. At age 15, a diver can earn an Open Water certification; until then, they hold a Junior Open Water certification.
